Room Service on Celebrity Cruises + Increased Fees

There have been a few changes in the room service options on Celebrity Cruises including an increased 20% mandatory service fee applied to any paid items like alcohol as well as on the delivery fee when applied.

Celebrity Room Service Fees

Complimentary continental breakfast is available from 6am to 9:30am.

Guests at the Zenith level of the Captain’s Club, those staying in suites, or in the retreat area are exempt from any delivery charges and can enjoy complimentary room service at any time!

For everyone else, there is a fee. For hot breakfast options, a $9.95 service charge along with a 20% gratuity applies for each delivery, which can include unlimited hot items such as fried eggs, omelets, pancakes, etc. Additionally, you can include as many cold items and beverage items as you want!

The same fee structure is in place for lunch, dinner, and late-night orders where you can order sandwiches, soups and salads ($9.95 +20% delivery fee).

Beverages like coffee, juice, milk, and non-dairy milk are complimentary during breakfast hours. Alcoholic beverages such as wine, champagne, and beer are subject to a la carte pricing with an additional 20% service fee (increased from the 18% that has been standard for many years).

A few tips about ordering room service on Celebrity

In our experience, the service was always on time and delivered within the timeframe selected on the ordering card (30-minute window choices from 6am-9:30am).

Hot food, unfortunately, didn’t always arrive hot and more often was lukewarm, leaving us to just order pastries and coffee at breakfast. If we wanted hot food, we’d force ourselves to the buffet with the masses instead of paying $9.95 for the same food but cold.

Tips for ordering:

  • Be sure to have your order hanging outside no later than 2am or you WILL not receive your breakfast!
  • The room service portions seem a little small, if you’re a big eater, order extra. (Remember, it’s unlimited!)
  • The fee is PER room order, not per person. Whether you’re solo or a family of 4, you’ll only be charged $9.95 for a room service delivery.

Is Room Service Worth it on Celebrity Cruises?

Considering every cruise line is going to a service fee for hot items, it’s not surprising Celebrity is charging this now as well. Long gone are the days of any-time dining at no extra charge. 🙁 But the fact that there isn’t an al la carte charge for specific items is refreshing. Many other cruise lines are charging for every little thing on the menus PLUS a delivery fee, Celebrity is not (yet).

In our opinion, it was worth ordering morning coffee and pastries but it wasn’t worth paying extra for hot items.

The only exception to this is mornings when we had early excursions and wouldn’t have the time to fight the crowds at the Buffet. Being able to order a hardy breakfast before a full-day excursion that departed first thing in the morning was a real life saver!
